Hi, what is the best scrims to use? the ones we use are rubbish because when you wipe the sope and water left around the edges of the window it just smudges it and when dried it leaves smears and spudge marks around the window. i would like one that soaks all soap and water up leaving it clean. Thanks

Just ask any good supplier for washed and hemmed, "best" grade(finest). Then boil it again, then wash the car, then start to break it in to get rid of the fluffy bits.

6 months later just as its begining to wear out, its perfect  Smiley

Scrims are history, Ungers large microfibre are the mutts nuts, they last as well but are better in use  IMO. No boiling, works straight out of the packet, just wash on 40 degrees with a very small amount of detergent and no softener and ready to go again. I used to love scrims but they take so long to break in and become good cloths, I much prefer the less hastle approach of microfibre.

only buy the no1 scrim, dnt buy the cheap ones.
i found that they mark the window if they have been washed with wash powder or sofner. and dont tumble dry them. radiators or on the line .

I have scrims from 10 years a go - they are still good. I still prefer scrims to microfibre, & they are still good at keeping their colour more than microfibre. Lets face it, microfibre after some leaky black sealed window - never comes out properly. I do a lot of inside work, so they are perfect as drop cloths as well & versatile in other areas. Nothing beats a huge Unger when new, but after one or two washes - pretty useless.

My microfibre cloths are in mint condition after loads of use, admittidly not 10 years worth, maybe my missus is better with the washing machine than yours is LOL

well thanks for the info guys. well ive not got six months for the scrim to wear in coz i do sometimes commercial work and they request trad window cleaning coz of the vents that spit out gunk back on the windows after we clean them with WFP. so i guess im gonna buy a micro fibre. but i will try and break the scrim in. guess i'll try and scrub down my pavements with it outside my house to wear it in LOL. what do u think? would that work?

Just put them on a hot wash, half the powder & no conditioner. Let them hang to dry. Use them for frames first, after a few washes the're good for windows.

I would buy both, use the scrims a seal clothes till they are worn in (or boilwash them about 30times, unger micros are great, but im yet to use them in winter little worring as they seem to hold alot of water and i get wet enough in winter.

We always use prewashed grade 1 heamed scrim (if you can get irish scrim this is the best I have used) but my supplier stopped selling them as they didnt make enough money on them  Cry
I have tried the grade 2 a they last about a month then have holes all over the place.
