Today I managed to embed my 4" window scraper straight into my finger to such an extent that I cut through the underlying tissue. It was me being a pillock and not paying full attention to what I was doing.
Made me wonder though .... what have been 1) your worst injuries on the job 2) your most common injuries and 3) how did you manage to avoid repeating them?

i let my unger pole come closing down at a great rate of knotts and my finger was between sections and it fished a chunk of skin off, the feeling that a million wasps had stung me at once and wasting an hour at hospital getting it dressed was enough to stop it happening again....so far! common probs is neck ache on higher stuff and going wfp has given me trigger finger in my little finger which is annoying  |

i let my unger pole come closing down at a great rate of knotts and my finger was between sections and it fished a chunk of skin off, the feeling that a million wasps had stung me at once and wasting an hour at hospital getting it dressed was enough to stop it happening again....so far! common probs is neck ache on higher stuff and going wfp has given me trigger finger in my little finger which is annoying  yes right enough you only do that once |

trying to fix pump,put screwdriver through skin,between thumb and finger,window full of little pains put ladder resting on wood ladder slipped down and went through window,little squares stopped me going right throw

my missus dropped a brass squegee from top of the ladder, she asked me i could pass it back to her, after looking round for it i realised it was hanging out of my forearm  |

I used to be a lumberjack. We worked deep into the forest. One Saturday I went out felling on my own and without my safety fiber trousers on. I managed to cut my knee with the chainsaw blade. I looked down and saw blood and panicked. I was almost half a mile from my car and just ran and ran without looking down even for a second, convinced I was seriously injured and would collapse from blood loss out in the woods and no one would find me till reported missing and I would be dead. I thought if I could reach the car before passing out I could just blow the horn till someone heard it in the farm a few hundred yards from where I was parked up.
Well I got there after running for my life and jumped in the car then had a look at my potentially fatal damage......... f o o k me it was a tiny wee 4 inch long 1mm deep scar that had actually begun to dry up. Whit a donkey. You know I always put my safety fibers on after that day.

i fell of my ladder once once the ladder goes it goes quick one minute i was cleaning the window 1st floor next minute i bounced of the concrete i bent the ladder so much it could not be closed halfway i had to put a warning on the back written danger the customer had to put them on the car because i couldnt lift my arm up i bought some pointers with suction feet marvelous still got them but never use them after the fall i came on the forum went waterfed could of been worse could have gone through the leantoo round the back the trad windy did 5 years before and the lady said to me why me its twice now first him now you she never called back jinxt house |

last winter going down some steps to basement slipped on ice, spent 2 weeks walking around with 2 broken ribs before i went to doc, the got hold and moved the rib about to show me how bad it was, at time i was a delivery driver, aways hold rail now if it looks slippery...

I use the triumph retractable, pity they only do it in 6". Would like a 4" model. I've had around 3 sets of stitches over the years (+ the cuts that get wrapped in tape), different fingers, right leg etc. I've always thought putting the blade covers back on can lead to a cut as much as the actual scraping. I've also cut myself numerous times on changing blades on the slide/push in type. Now I use the vice in the workshop & carry a few spare scraper units in the van, never changing the blade on the job.

Doing a bungalow using my step ladder a few moons ago trad' the ladder slipped two feet, my left hand which came down hard on sill caused my wedding ring to go under skin. Had to go to A & E and get ring cut off....Needless to say that i don't wear any rings when doing glasswork, even though i wear gloves now. You can still see the perfect scar tissue line on the underside of my finger.....You don't have to fall from a great height do yourself an injury,,,,,,Mine was only two feet... |
