I did a job in July for a Shopfitting company based in the North of England. Basically involved a shop front clean of a local Argos store in Pembrokeshire.
Communication was both via email and telephone and have records of all. The price was agreed via email. The company was very keen to get the job done asap as the handover was overdue. I bent over backwards and dropped loads of work and completed the job in unsociable hours.
I posted the company an invoice with thier work sheet which was signed by the Argos store manager. My invoices state that they are to be paid strictly within 28 days. I followed this with a coutesy email with payment terms etc.
This period has long gone and have had no communication from the company. What next....am i within my rights to send a 14 day letter with a surcharge if its not paid?
Dont like working for nothing!

If things continue to go on the way they have, then unless you are prepared to take them to a small claims court, the hard fact is you have been shafted. Official sounding scarey letters and emails will have no effect if it is a dodgy company. They will gamble on you not taking things further. My advice is keep at them for a month yet and then write it off if no joy.

to be honest July wasn't that long ago, some of my commercial run three months behind, but once it comes in it comes in just fine, two years ago I did a similar job along the lines you describe but it was all over the phone so I had no proof and 4 months later it was paid out of the blue

I agree commercial jobs seem to take at least 6 weeks to pay , then some of mine insist on chaques therefore taking longer . I have a few that pay instantly , if they are in , A large factory always pay me on the job , Hairdresser pay me there and then Another commercial pays me by bank transfer after i have texted them its been done and the money is in my bank before i get home , superb ,
At the moment i'm struggling with cash flow , loads of work(too much) , but even private SAE are taking time to come in and commercial are always a pain .
Is Private work better than commercial , i guess you could argue all day long . one advantage of commercial i find is that i can do them in all waethers .

funny you say that vic, used to do weatherspoons in sittingbourne, always behind on invoices, always chasing them up for payment, so would totally agree with your warning to steer clear. never got a free beer either!!

Not just a "normal" commercial job though, this one is worth £150. Which as im sure youll all agree as a sole trader is a bloody lot. Just annoys me when the my terms are clearly stated and apaarantly understood.

brilliant!!
I've got a hotel that owes me a couple of hundred, always been late payers, but needed a legal letter to spur them into action the last time, for 5 months of cleaning.
(Brook Hotels in case anyone's wondering, AWFUL payers, got a TERRIBLE reputation among ALL sorts of trades, tbh I don't know hhow these people stay in business...)
not criminal but civil matter eh......?
