Is there anything that can be sprayed onto the slx pole after its worn down to give it a coating of some kind

you could try dry lube from Halfords or most hardware stores.

I bought the spray from Gardiners , Its good .
Cleans it up and lubricates it .
Don't use wd40 ,
Phone gardiners and they will send it to you , about £8
