Morning chaps,

I am looking to kick start 2012 by starting my own window cleaning business, my Dad is one but he's slowed down considerably, losing customers in the process. I've tried talking to him about modernising his round and bringing an element of professionalism to it but he's so stuck in his ways so I'm going it alone.

I've already had a look at some articles on here regarding Peter's and Purefreedoms trolley system, these both fit my budget - around 2k, no van.

My question is which trolley would you guys recommend starting with, I think the 50l purefreedom looks great however Peter's offers hotwash which I think would be a great selling point when canvassing.

If anyone has used the 2 I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Hopefully get to know some of you over the coming months.

Dan

Iv seen so many people try to start a business spent lots then gone nowhere !

My RO cost around £200
Just got a Gardiners CLX27 £180
You can add trolley or backpack (can be more useful thats what I use).
Adding brushes hose reel fittings etc

Other stuff I use Id doubt cost me much more than £1K now  Cool

Hi Dan,
I have only been doing waterfed for the last six months, but have been doing trad for many years. I purchased a omnitrolly system and a shurflo propack backpack to start me off, and they both do a great job. These may save you spending out a big lump sum to start with and will earn the money back in no time.

Hi , i've been trad for 12yrs and after buying one of Peters trolleys, there's no going back , it's safer , quicker and gives a better job than trad. That said i WFP the tops only , just so i don't have to make or carry so much pure Wink

Cheers for your responses guys,

I checked the United Utilities website and it says my water is 'very soft' but it doesn't give a TDS number.

Would I be better investing in a hot water system rather than cold? I imagine it would clean better?

I do have some experience in traditional window cleaning from working with the old man but I just think the job would be so much easier and more profitable by going wfp.

Hi Dan. I just bought Peters Trolley system and quite im
Pressed. I got Hotwash but found by having Gas cylinder and Heater on trolley too makes it so Heavy and Cumbersome. Only using it on my own house and will use cold on customers. Cleaned my windows in cold today and they came out great. Be honest if I were you I would just get cold and save 250 quid. Peters very helpful too !

Hi Strick
I live in Fulwood, Preston and the TDS reading is 70ppm, so its soft water. I use the DI method of purifying the water and use approx. 1000L per week and have to change the resin every 4 weeks'ish. I have an 11 litre vessel and put 8 litres of resin in this each time. It cost approx £80 for 25L of resin, the monthly cost is approx £40. Hope this helps  Smiley

HI, I am just getting going myself.  I have some other work that provides a bit of a safety net money wise but I would like to be cleaning  all the time really.  I worked with a friend to start with and got some experience.  You have that already from your Dad.  I have bought a trolley system and am canvassing my own work.  The trolley is fine. I bought it from someone packing up after six months because of changed circumstances.  I saved £450 on the new package price so was in the right place at the right time.  Keep a lookout. They are around.  I couldn't even think about buying a van and it is unnecessary expense at the moment.  I am working out of the car with drums.  It is slower than a tank in the van but not very much and the cost saving is huge.  I like the fact that you can concentrate on earning a living first then see how it goes in time before spending big.  Customers like to see a van but are more concerned about price and quality with window cleaning.  I need the full ro system as our water is very hard in the south.  Combining some trad work saves water.  A number on here seem to do that.  Get the work going and pay those bills!  All the best.
