Hello all, brand new to the forum as well as the business. I have been researching the wfp process and have a question about purification. The whole thing about purifying your water, messing with filters, resins, testing, storing seems a bit confusing. I've spoken to a local pure water dealer who says his water is deionized and pure, and he'll sell it to me for 17 cents a litre, as much as I want, anytime. I just have to drive over with a load of empty tanks. Does this seem like a good deal compared to purifying my own? Thanks in advance, cheers, Keith

200 litres would cost you $35 which would be an average amount of water per day depending what you are doing
so depending on how much an ro unit is over there and how much di resin is also if your on water meters
but even so i dont think it would cost you $35 per day

Hello all, brand new to the forum as well as the business. Good to see you here, Keith - how did you find this forum? I have been researching the wfp process and have a question about purification. The whole thing about purifying your water, messing with filters, resins, testing, storing seems a bit confusing. Right now, maybe it does! That's just because you haven't been "hands-on" yet - there's loads of information here for you, just get on that search button. There's also a DIY site You are not allowed to view links.
Register or Login which might be handy too. I've spoken to a local pure water dealer who says his water is deionized and pure, and he'll sell it to me for 17 cents a litre, as much as I want, anytime. I just have to drive over with a load of empty tanks. Does this seem like a good deal compared to purifying my own? 17c a litre works out to $10.20 an hour at only 1 litre a minute if you're going non-stop You'd need to figure out the initial price of setting up your own purifying plant and ongoing costs, against however many litres of water you'll be using at 17c - plus your time and fuel getting there and back too. If the water supply to your house is metered it might be worth finding out if a commercial rate would work out cheaper for you than domestic. Check this out You are not allowed to view links.
Register or Login Once you're up and running, I reckon you could charge 15c to other newbies Thanks in advance, cheers, KeithAnytime! Get stuck in!

Hi Keith, if you can buy it very local to you it will be the fastest way to get started while you check out the alternatives.(rent tanks ?) As long as the tds is 000 its ok to use. You cannot generally work much below freezing. so need to base your year on the days you can work. If you use some light poles it can be a good repeat job, but you need to build up a large customer base.

Thanks for the info. I like the idea of getting my feet wet (ha) buying water whilst setting up a purifying unit. Storage is not an issue because I have a workshop where I keep my other cleaning equipment but it is on well water there, very hard and not even drinkable. Will the purifying unit work on such hard and unclean water? Thank you all. PS I found the post while googling WFP

Keith, newbie in Canada here too, nice have a bro around I got that same 15-17cent per litre offer from the local water places too, but picked up a 100GPD system off ebay that's producing my water for less than 1 cent per US gallon. So I definitely recommend producing your own. For poles check out Home Depot, they have a fairly light 16.5' aluminum pole which should get you up to most second story windows. It's about $35 depending on the store.

Thanks Doug, I have a similar pole to the HD and was looking at a 60psi pump from Princess Auto. I'm in Uxbridge north of Toronto and east of Newmarket... where are you?

Keith, I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo. I hope you have better luck with the pump from PA, mine died after about 2 days of testing. I'm waiting on a Hudson back pack as we speak.

Doug, good information... maybe I'll re-think the PA pump. I know TSC has a similar one made for farmer's weed sprayers and I think it's 75psi for about $120. The only other pump source I can think of is the ones from portable carpet cleaning machines and they are minimum 100psi.
Where did you get your water purifying equipment?
I'm a bit of a DYI guy and have fun weeing around with inventing cleaning tools, or copying the expensive ones cheaply...

Keith, the back pack has a 60psi pump and looks like it's got pretty good reviews from fellow wfp'ers. I'll have it in a few days so I'll let you know how it works for me. Another possibility that I'm working on as a back up is a tank pressurized with a cordless air compressor. I got the compressor from an ebay seller in California and it works well. Just gotta get my hands on a decent pressure tank. I was going to use a couple of garden sprayers but the seals on those things are dung these days, I think with the amount of screwing and unscrewing to refill the tanks with water, they'll start leaking air before too long.
I got a 6 stage ro/di on ebay (check a bunch of auctions for the best price) for about $300 after customs had their way with it...free trade my a$$!
I'm not a big DIY'er but when I wanted to at least try the wfp with a relatively cheap homemade system before laying out a bunch of cash.
