you also may need more than one if you cover other areas, many guys have one or two licenses but not for all the areas they work

Fife is split up into 3 areas(west, central, east)you can get a permit for 1 of these areas or you can pay a little extra and get one that covers all three areas.

I don't think that's the case anymore. When I renewed my licence back in November for Fife, it covered all Fife instead of East, West or Central.

Makes sense, probably cut their admin costs down.Do you still get the option of 1 or 3 years? Have you heard of any trouble in the Bay regarding licences?

You still get the one or three year option.
As for DB, there was a bit of a crackdown on unlicensed window cleaners just over a year ago. Think the police have been keeping an eye on things too. Why DB I don't know as there are unlicensed cleaners elsewhere too!

Thanks for input lads, keep up the voting.
I think most guys on here would prob have one, as most the unlicenced ones are not too serious about it & prob wouldn't be on here anyway.
HAving done windows down south, I do find it weird how we have to pay for a licence here. It's a good selling point tho & I make a point of telling my customers, esp commerical.

There was a clamp down last year. A customer complained to the Police about some missing items. Also some chap who is well known for break ins was canvassing DB area. Few windies who were refused licences were prosecuted a few times operating in the area.

Don't know if you have received a letter but I have had a few along with other windies I know, reference to section 5 of the window cleaners licence :- "A window cleaner shall not emply or appoint for the purposes of window cleaning within the district any person who does not hold a window cleaners licence. A window cleaner shall keep available for inspection a register showing the names and addresses of all window cleaners in the district employed by him/her" Think they will be having a big clamp down and I know in Edinburgh all the managers of firms were hauled into the committee.

No,av no had a letter, what area was that for.A personally think it's a good thing, 'IF' it's enforced, but at the moment it's not n feels like a waste o money when most of the other window cleaners don't have one n get away with it.

Perth area is where I copied it from and cannot think who I received the other from. Fife were looking into a Enforcement Officer as they are one of a few who do not have one. All other Councils have them and they are often ex Police hence you will see the rise in licences and prosecutions. Fife just need to get their finger out but the Police did do a blitz accross all Civic trades last year. Central Scotland and Strathclyde are pretty hot on this. Strathclyde prosecuted over a 100 window cleaners and I've heard fines of £500 +. This chap hit the news recently : You are not allowed to view links.
