hey i just bourght a caravan boiler for producing hot water it be here friday at the latest so i'll install it then.

if all goes well and i get some good hot water from it (which i expect i will i use to live in a caravan in scotland and it always produced hot water in there  Grin Grin)

so when i got it installed i'll throw some pic's on here for you to see and if you like a try at it i'll give you the guys name that supplied me with the boiler.

he's making this boiler work on a 1L/m basis which boiler normaly work on more, i said i didnt mind due to i give the windows a good wash and my pump is a 4L/m pump

the boiler is smaller than the L5 thing you find on ebay and more robust (the only L5 i can find is from china im not willing to tyry that (i had one of them mini moto bikes)) 100 pound plus 15 for p&p

any info would be a help

just wondering how you get on with your insureance with gas bottles as soon as i changed to wfp my insureance shot through the roof for carrying a water tank ie an extra 200 quid a year for carrying a 650 ltre tank and some insureance companys wont insure water tanks so how do you get on with gas  cos i thought you had to be licenced to carry bottled gas  and if you dont surely your insureance is going to go through the roof

me thinks i should start looking but i read on here along its not on then it be fine for traveling.

my insurance aint gone up much i only carry 350 ltr's.

i have partitioned the van and the mid section is for my wfp section thus i'll mount it on that partition and only use it when both sides are open.

my van is an ldv cub Smiley

i read it all and if your carrying an lpg cylinder in a closed vehical you need to display an orange dimond if over 333kgs of lpg gas and if below (which i doubt any of use will carrymore than a 47 kgs) it becomes a gray area you may display the orange signs but the signs must be removed when you off loaded the lpg containers

plus you cant leave the cyilinder in you van over night unless well ventalated i think you also have to carry fire extinguishers as a just in case

i think along if you tell them you aint going to leave it in the vehical over nite it should be fine i'd also say look if there was a fire on average i got 350 ltr of water onboard to help the fire bregade  Grin Grin Grin

ok i finaly finished the hot water system and your going to love the resaults i did my mum's house and i didnt work it that hard aand they are sparkling. the dirt just drifted off, the only problem is that the hoses go soft, thus will have to buy thermobore  Roll Eyes

ok the bit your wanting to know about the insurance on the hot water system ie carrying arround the gas, it wasnt a great increase about £60/70 a year extra so i think worth it the strange thing was my excess against fire went down how weird is that.

i told them i wont carry more than 4.7 kgs of lpg gas which is fine and along you got orange dimonds on the back of the van the police wont bother you also

im going to take picture and put them on here for you to see

any questions please ask Smiley

ok along if your insurance and you got orange dimond on the back of your van you cant get in to trouble for have gas in your van and you got to drive with out the gas on.

in a closed van you got to take it out at nite which ain hard cause the resaults are worth the hassel.

any boiler will do iff it can take gas but you got to account for size this caravan boiler is small and quite efficient once heated it works a treat Smiley

i paid 115 that was with p&p i think this prodject cost me 200 - 250 so not big

the cylinder is kept in the back along its not rolling around i dont think it be a problem where it secured and that it's not covered i will build a little secure box for it next week hope this helps if you read back through the post i get the number for the guy on here that i got the boiler of

07932815207 his name is bob a good guy will help you out give him a call

as for the mod he just turned down the flow rate which is a screw thing underneath theheat control (in the picutre the first dial)

ok first daay done to day and we didnt have a big day but the day was dreamy the fronts sparkled and were easy to clean with the hot water it takes a time to get going as i think i got to pressure up to hi as my controller has shorted lol but it been good

i have been with some minor problems

1st the hose needs to be able to take heat it becone flexable and prone to shooting off  Roll Eyes

2nd the micro bore need to be handled gentelly due to becoming like a rubber band (you'll understand if you part take in the project )

3rd if a bit to much wind the pilot light goes out so i got to put the front on it Sad

appart from them i got it sussed and sorted hope you guy try it out its an inexpensive way to get heat on to your water the gas bottle i got is 6 kg (i know i told my insurance 4.7 kg) it lasted all day and i think it last most the week and at 16 odd pound its worth it the dirt on one first clean just melted off, also a metal framed window it worked wonders with

anyone needs advise pm me Smiley

PLEASE be very careful with these heaters.
They do not charge people extra for lpg gas certificates on top of corgi/gas safe basics just for the hell of it.
LPG is different to natural gas. The fumes are deadly and just because you have opened both doors it doesn't mean that the fumes haven't got into your cab.
the devices are usually designed to run with a flue vented to outside and not open into your vans. Even the effects of breathing the carbon monoxide present in the spent products while reeling in your hose could prove dangerous. The front not being on will allow the gas to be burnt unevenly and cause CO to be created in greater quantity.
Do you know how propane/butane and natural gas differ?
If the natural gas at home leaks then it "floats" in the air. Open a window and the gas escapes/dilutes. the dangerous part is when it reaches 15% gas to air ratio.
With LPG the ratio is about the same but it sinks to the floor when released or leaked. If it were to leak in a house or basement it has to be swept out of the house. (you look a bit of a prat sweeping fresh air out of the door when called to a lpg leak).
My point here is that if the pipework or gas bottle leaks then the lpg falls to the floor of the van and the spark created in the pump or controller or the ignition on the boiler itself could cause an explosion before you even smell the leak. The amount of gas needed to create 15% ratio in the confined space of a van is very little.
I personally would look at a generator with exhaust out through a vent /hole and immersion type heater(s) in the van tank.

I do not wish to be a killjoy but please be careful. Sometimes a little information can be dangerous and I would hate for someone to get badly hurt if I knew better and didn't say something.
At the very least use a heater with a vertical flue kit out through the roof and plenty of cross ventilation air vents at high level. These can be closable to prevent cold winds freezing at night. try and house the lpg bottle against the side of the vehicle and seal it to the van with a low level vent in the compartment to the outside.
Take care
Andy
