I have basically gone from wfp to trad on 1 of my rounds due to being able to be just as quick with the blade . Its about 60 ,4 bed detached that i now use wfp about 10% , the ones with conservatories . Alot of customers were glad to see me go up the ladder again .They didnt complain about wfp . The advantage for me is same earnings , less water to produce , confident when asking for the money .Also you can wipe above vents and window sills properly cleaned .
I do a lot of commercial wfp , and think its brilliant , and now Residentially i basically do a mixture .

seems an odd thing to do not want to cause offence seems you have a lack of confidence in wfp iwould rather be on the ground far less risk of an accident

in the time i worked with my ex work parner he fell twice in two years, once ladder just slipped on a patio, nothing dodgey just went, i had to work with his idiot mate for two weeks till he got better . other time he went through a reenforced glass porch, lucky a wheelie bin broke his fall, cut his hands to bits and cost him another week off work and us £160, that was his fault. this is the reason i left parnership and started again on my own but WFP. I must admit i cringe sometimes when collecting money, but have always stated any probs give me a call, i will redo the windows.

Also after trying to convince customers all this time, you finally admit you were wrong and they were right

No , I have been very successful with water fed pole and will continue to be .Its a good tool to have in my locker .I do a mixture .I have only had a couple of complaints in over 12 months . Also i have never had to preach to any of my customers about changing over ,just did it , personally not many noticed . Its just that this particular round and style of windows its just as quick to trad .the windows of these 60 houses have openers at the top and its easier to trad . A few will be poled still . Im very confident in using the pole and im very knowledgable dur to this forum about the pros and cons .
Im glad i used the pole on these houses , but it didnt gain me much .

I understand the reasons for reverting back but it does mean you are now breaking H&S regulations as you have the tools to do the job a lot safer but choosing not to use them.....

if you have a viable alternative that you do not use ie poles in your van then you are not using the safeist method at your disposal and are breaking health and safety.

Ladders are not banned and there is NO 30 minute rule that I know of, but if you do have a safer way of doing a job and you choose not to use it then you are breaking the regulations. Regards Mr H

Register or Loginsample: I have a copy of a PowerPoint presentation that the HSE give me back in December 2005. On the slide about ladder use and short duration, the speaker's notes say, "Short duration is stipulated in the Directive and WAHR, but it is not defined. There are decided cases which indicate how short, short duration can be, but not how long is short duration. The ladders project team identified that a maximum of 30 minutes work at a single point before the ladder is moved would be sensible to allow a window still to be prepared and painted. Short duration will not normally be the deciding factor in establishing whether an activity is acceptable or not; it will be the risk. For example painting ground floor windows from a stepladder would be fine as a low risk activity, however painting a fourth floor window from a ladder would not be acceptable as it is not low risk, regardless of the duration."Hope this helps Mike (I enlarged the last bit, but there is definitely a 30min rule/directive, as long as you've ASSESED THE RISK)
