Never use ammonia too risky sometimes. For really `cruddy` stuff I use the Unger `Pill` which I find is excellent.I used to use my own made up `soap` from a chemical
Manufacturers which was an improved version of G.G.4.But recently have started using the Unger liquid.Really good rubber slip and nice smell too, especially for say
Inside office accounts. Also gone back to using my bucket more.I was running out of
Solution on outside work.Even 2 buckets in a bottle on your belt dos`nt last long.Jimmy down there in `Oz`  I don`t know how he makes out with his outside `cruddy` windows,he uses nothing else I think,

Hi - Some great ideas - I am a new starter in England and am fascinated with the leather holster set up - could you explain it further? Show drawing perhaps.

What squeegees should I get?  What techniques should I learn?

Best regards

Hey Jimmy,
hows it going? It's nice to know some of us are realy enthusiastic about modifiying and improvement of equipment. Anything that makes our job more efficient, faster and easier = more money!
I'm an avid modifier myself as everyone knows by now, yawn, yawn!
I realy like some of your ideas. With reference to the bucket on a belt you mention. It is a joke if you ONLY USE IT AS SUCH. However you should only use it as a TOOL HOLDER!!!!!!!! Also frequently emty it out.
Iv'e been using the BOTTLE ON A BELT for years.
It's a 1ltr pull top. I did 10 detached houses with one litre this morning using only one scrim and one sill cloth.
The sill cloth needs wringing out frequently. It's domestic work and I emagine that commercial work will require more scrims and sill cloths.
Also I use Wagtail for everything. The Wagtail I use for my pole-work is modified to incorporate a detailing tool fixed in position so I don't have to bring the pole down for detailing. It's made so much difference that I don't use ladders much at all now.
Also I use PURE WATER IN ALL MY BOTTLES with GG3 and a small sqirt of W5 washing up liq. Don't ask me why this solution works but believe me it does and Iv'e been experimenting for 21 years! This new formula gives me great confidence with the pole where you have to have faith that youre doing a good job bcause in the main you can't see what your doing like on ground floor.
I've been in contact with Wagtail with ideas and i have more.

Hi cdawer,do you use the older type `Wagtails` or the new ones that I think
Are made more for the home owner.I`m an avid user of the `Wagtail` combi
Which I`ve modified using an Unger `Monsoon` strip washer sleeve instead
Of the microfiber pad that comes as standard with the older `Wagtails`.
I`m really interested in the detailing tool you`ve attached to your `Wagtail`
For polework.I use the `Wagtail` squeegee also with the pole.Could you send
A picture or explain more thanks.

Hi Bladerunner,
Been using Wagtail for years now and have made severl mods. The detailing mod is the most recent and extremely effective, so much so that I dont use my ladders very much anymore.
For an explanation please go to my previous posts under Ladder Mitts and Pole-work and Detailing.
I'm getting realy frustrated with not being able to post photos on here as my camera is not compatible with my computer.
Iv'e got several other very important mods to the Wagtail which all combine to make a fabulous set of tools. It's the Wagtail Flipper that you will need for these mods but I swear it's worth it.
If you can't quite understand the mods please get back to me. I promise you won't regret it!

PS Bladerunner I'm interested in how you used the mop mod on your Wagtail. Iv'e still got a load of the other type which were designed for the velcro fastning so I don't need any yet. The very latest type Wagtail do are too thin and floppy and I don't get on wiht them so eventually I'll need a mod similar to yours I expect.
Cheers
Chris

I have to get mine from Aussie so it's expensive. Hopfully I may get them from Omnpole as Karl suggests, in future.

As for the detailing tool thread, well don't worry I'll describe it agiain. You need a Wagtail Flipper. 12" is best for pole. Then you attach a piece of angled metal about 5"or 6" long to rear of Wagtail grip, up near the yellow disc using a couple of jubillee clips. All you do then is to wrap your cloth around it, then down the handle and secure with either an elastic band or a small bulldog grip(much better than elastic bands and much easier to use]
You'll know if youv'e got the angles right when you come to use it. So, in principle, all you do is place yor Wagtail onto your pole, here it lives PERMANENTLY (use standard Wagtail in your hand and BOAB) wet window, shake pole, pad swings out of way, blade window then rotate pole 180 deg and use detailing tool. You'll soon know if its set right or not, too short too long wrong angle etc it becomes obvious in use. It will work in most situations but not all. For those it doesn't then you can use the old way if you like but as the new mod works well for most of your work you'll wonder how you ever managed without.
Iv'e got a whole host of mods now but I dont want to confuse things. Hopfully I'll soon be able to post some pic's!
Thanks for tips on combi.

Hi Macco
Welcome. Wer'e here to help. Naturally I would recommend Wagtail. Website at: wagtail.com
However I don't knock the original gear. Iv'e been using it for years. I would recommend using a bucket-on-a-belt in conjuction with a 1ltre bottle of your chosen solution. GG3 seems one of the best glass cleaners.
Carrying around a pre-made-up solution is easier than carrying a bucket around and you can apply the right amout of solution to your applicator.
Just read through as many of the past threads as you can and you will get a good idea of things.

Chris, when the `Flippers` first came out,an American friend of mine said ya can
Make them yourselves easily using a standard `Wagtail` squeegee. He did describe
How he did it but could`nt quite myself understand it.Would you say that ya can
Perhaps make something up yourself? On the `Flipper` video there dos`nt look to be
Much material come into contact with the glass.

Hi Bladerunner,
Yes easy peasy. You can chop and change Wagtail into FLipper piece of cake. A bit of fiddling and emagination.
I converted all mine, old and new. Buy some velcro and some realy good glue.
Wagtail have redesigned lately and don't use the velcro anymore but a sort of plastic clip which Iv'e also modded a bit because I think their new pads are too thin and floppy. I love the ones you see in my pics.
Anyway, take a good look at my latest mod with attached detailing tool if you can!
