I decided to give my 3 section pole a bit of a service since it would not grip properly anymore and would require it being tightened up so much that at times I could not undo it again!
When I took it apart, the locking cones did not seem to be worn out.
I gave the whole pole a good clean useing T-Cut.
I reckon that as the aluminuum wears, it becomes like talcum powder an acts like a lubricant.
Next I cleaned the locking cones.
Then I oiled the THREADS ONLY on the cones. Don't get any on the pole or the bits that actually clamp.
Iv'e been using the pole everyday for over a week and it now performs like new again.
I was astonished at the difference a little TLC can make!
