I do pressure washing along with the windows and had only done one job in the past year( and its always on all fliers my van and my calling cards) till last week when I got 5 in a week including 1 big builders clean on an Iceland store that I wouldnt have been able to complete without it. Tip of the day get the biggest machine you can afford

I do pressure washing in the summer months and it is a good add on but the equipment is faily expensive. Good money though and you usually get the windows as well.

My business started out in september 2009 as a pressure cleaning-carpet cleaning business, but since doing away with the carpet cleaning and investing in van mount wfp after the bad winter last year the window cleaning is now the main part of the business, i still have the pressure washer and all the kit so as and when required i still can do it, the money to be earned is fanastic if you can find the work, the first 2 jobs i got was an external factory cladding clean that took 2 days and priced at £800 then i was called to clean some conopies at a next re-fit in leicester which took 2 hours and i charged £180 but since then its been mainly driveways at existing custies houses, i have to say though although its on my flyers etc i havent really pushed it this year as i was consentrating on buiding the window cleaning up as the cash from it is more guaranteed.
so anyway back to your question, if you have a spare £3-4k to spend on worthwhile kit and have he time to push it properly it can pay you back BIG TIME....

You can do either but on the commercial jobs its a case of think of a day rate and treble it, on domestic stuff i go by the hour. You can get a very good system set up for under £1000
You can get a set up for £1000 but i dont agree it would be a "very good system" at that price?? it would be something to get you going and need constant tinkering, may as well get a quality 1 from the start, ive got an edge ranger petrol machine and cant fault it, used it for 5days solid and it never missed a beat, when i was in the mobile valeting trade i had loads of differant machines from £2-£600 quid and none of them have lived to tell the tale, its like with everything else in this world you get what you pay for, if machines for £1000 were upto this kind of work why do people buy machines at £2000-£3000+ ?

I have only ever done a couple of pressure washing jobs, you really have to know what you are doing, I didn't...then at least. A monoblock driveway......blasted all the sand out the joints The cars next door I left all scratched due to the force of the blasting throwing up debris. I blasted a member of the public in the back as I turned around and also killed some well loved bedding plants. That was my first time though.

Blowing the sand from the joins is a massive pain, i did a huge block paving driveway that took 4 days to do, the sludge was imense but luckily it was summer so it dries out really fast if you keep aiming it into the direct sun light, i think there was 38 bags of the stuff when id done!!!!! but ive been doing it a while now so im used to it. (i have also taken the head off many a border flower)

The best thing is to just get people to move stuff out of the way, to stop it spraying everywhere you would need a 360degree shield, you can wash walls, garage doors, windows etc down as you go along, once you get going you can really get through it so moving shields around and stuff would just slow you down. the whirlaways cut the overspray down but i dont like them, prefer a lance with a turbo nozzle. Its not as easy as it may seem, especially the block paving if you go into it blind on a decent size area you will wonder what uve got yourself into!!!!!

Cry Ive done a few pressure washing jobs with an electric washer it had a turbo nozzle but it was slow and under powered took me a while to do the job but they came up good. I could have just done with something to shield next doors cars from being splattered but I did rinse it off after with no damage done, also could do with something to put over gravel edges to stop the being blew everywhere.

Careful when pricing up, make sure you are getting your hourly rate PLUS the cost of running the machine which is a fair bit with petrol and repairs etc. You also need to repalce it every 2 years and that isn't cheap mate

So why do you have to replace it every 2 years? Any decent machine, maintained well should last for years.
